Term 3 Blog Prompt #18

The ONE WORD that can save your life

The word is "NO". It was rather interesting to read this article, as it attracted me through the beginning with a strange irony. Not to go for health test, as it would harm our health. This made me want to read more of the article. It states that through these test, they frequently show inaccurate results, which leads to many more useless yet complicated test, and may eventually harm your health. Also, it is very expensive to go for such treatments, stating that in US, 2.7 trillion, 1/6 of money spent in US, are on health. This is stunning, as this man claims that the test done are sometimes not worth it. They also gave an example of a female patient, which first experienced a minor chest pain, which ended up resulting in a heart transplant, which was the cause of all the test and intervenes.

In my opinion, I feel that this article is very interesting. I would disagree with him, but yet acknowledge his argument. What I feel is that we should not go for all those extra scans and checkups, but go to those important ones. Such as getting a full body checkup once a year or something. But yet this is true, that inaccurate results would arise. Well, actually, it would still be important to get yourself checked for any diseases and illnesses, to prevent them from affecting you. Such as detecting cancer early, to prevent it. Overall, although what he says is partially true, I still feel the need to go to such test and scans.

  1. I agree with you that having occasion health-check will be beneficial for us. Personally, I feel that it will be better to be safe than sorry. Although that sometimes check-ups and scans may contain a lot of harmful rays that will be harmful to your body in the long run, having occasional full body check-up is deficiently needed.
