Good morning Mr Lundberg and fellow classmates. I am Benjamin from class 2o4, and I would be talking about prejudice today.
In my opinion, I feel that prejudice should be removed from our societies these days. Especially for multi-racial nations such as Singapore, it is very important to maintain racial harmony. Thus, i take my stand against prejudice. Yet, I do not feel that there have been enough done to prevent prejudice.
Many racial slurs can still be heard nowadays. Even though there are events celebrating racial harmony, such as racial harmony day, and also hari raya, chinese nwy year, deepavali, where we get the opportunity to understand one another's race. However, this is not enough. I have seen first hand the prejudice towards other races. For example, i have heard people insulting the construction workers of races such as indians and so on. This is because prejudice still lives in our societies today. Thus, these people would then look down on these workers.
However,we should never take racial insults as a norm in our societies. It is extremely offensive to use such language against another race.
Yet, i would still like to praise Singapore's efforts to reduce prejudice. Although prejudice has not been removed completely, the government had done a very good job controlling it . Compared to countries like the US, Singpapore has definately more racial harmony, and thus should be praised for. Still, the government still has to put in effort and make sure prejudice is at its lowest.
Even so,this is very serious. As without racial harmony, riots and violence among the races would definately take place. I would not want a repeat of the Mario Hertogh riots, or to see major discrimanation towards another race. And thus, I take my stand against prejudice. And so should you...
