Online lesson T2 Online lesson #5 Mississippi Burning (ACE)

Reflections

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was part of the civil rights movements, which eventually brought peace and freedom for the african-americans from the white people during the 1960s. It all started on the 1st December 1955, when Rosa Park, an african-american, refused to give up her seat to a white person, which was against the city policy, which states that the whites had priority, and the african-americans had to give up their seat when a white person came on board. This lead to a series of events, and finally ended on 20th December 1956. This boycott movement goal was to seek justice for those african-americans, who were treated by the whites harshly, as they showed prejudice towards the african-americans.

Just like the boycott, the movie "Mississippi Burning" revolves around the theme of prejudice during that time era. It shows the harsh treatment received by the african-americans, and the prejudice shown towards them. They could even kill a black man, and escape scott-free, as even the law and court were prejudice. However, these two detectives, who were investigating the death of 3 civil rights worker, eventually helped these african-americans regain justice, as they cracked the case, and the offenders were sent off to prison. However, the main points that they were one step closer to resolving prejudice and racism.

As so, both of the boycott and the movie are related. This is so as both revolve around the theme prejudice, as well as the determination to solve it.

In my opinion, the treatment during that time was very unfair. One should never undergo such harsh living conditions. The whites burnt houses, killed african-americans, all because of prejudice. We should treat everyone equally, black or white, they are still human. As so, these movements have inspired me to become a better person, and not showing any racism towards anyone.
