On 21st March 2011, my class visited an Old Folks Home located at Clementi to assit and help the elderly living there. Over there, we helped them clean up the area, as well as keep them company, and also gave them some entertainment such as a performance, and games such as chinese chess.
When I visited the Old Folks Home, I realised how fortunate I was to be in a family. Some of the elderly were either abandoned or did not have a family. It also made me realise the importance of taking care of my parents. I must be filial and support my parents when they are old, just like how they raise me when I am young. My parents have put in a lot of effort, money, time and love into raising me up, so I would never ever think of the cruel action of abandon my parents at an Old Folks Home.
Even though the living conditions of the Old Folk's Home is rather good, but I think the elderly there are still not happy. They are missing one important aspect of happiness, which is family. Family gives you the moral support to do things. They comfort you when you are down. But most importantly, family is your home.
