Qn. Do you think Singapore will ever legalise same-sex marriage?
This is not possible in the near future. This is so as the government had implemented a stern law that homosexual activities are illegal in Singapore, and thus forbidding same-sex marriage. Under the Singapore Government Penal Code 377A, it states that people who are involved in homosexual activities is considered a criminal offence, and may be imprisoned or fined or both. This shows that the Singapore government is against the idea of homosexuality in Singapore. They think that problems would arise if such was to take place. Thus, at least in the near future, they would not approve of such in Singapore.
However, maybe in the future, about 20 to 30 years down the line, Singapore may finally decide to legalise such marriages. This is so as they might choose to follow the other countries, whom by 2030, may legalise same-sex marriage too. Recently, New York City had become the 6th state in America to legalise same-sex marriage. Thus, Singapore might also follow up in the future and legalise same-sex marriage. Another factor why they might do so is due to the people who support same-sex marriage. In the US, there were supporters who went on "strikes" and protested against the government until they legalised same-sex marriage. The stregth these people have to persuade countries to legalise same-sex marriage is high, and thus, may not be avoidable in the future.
